Kia ora,
I would like to personally welcome all the children to Room 20 for this year. We have spent a couple of days together, and I am excited to be working with such a wonderful variety of personalities. It has also been great to meet all the parents who have come in to say hello.
Welcome too, to Cerys, who is joining Room 20 as a Year 6 this week, direct from the UK. I am sure that everyone here will make her feel welcome at Redwood.
As some of you will be aware, I am returning to duties at Redwood School after having a years leave to look after my son, Jamie. It was a fantastic chance to spend some quality time being a parent, and I was very grateful for the opportunity.
As a result, I have agreed to work reduced hours this year to continue to spend more time with Jamie. I will be in the classroom four days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesdays, Rachel McDowell will be teaching in Room 20. Rachel is a longtime employee of Redwood School and has taught my class on release days previously. She and I will be planning together to take advantage of our different strengths and give our best for your children.
Class Focus
Along with core curriculum learning, Room 20 are going to spend some time learning to establish Room 20 as a co-operative learning environment. We will focus on sharing ideas and listening to each other, as well as setting goals and self-monitoring achievement.

Please feel free to talk with me about any queries you may have throughout the year. The best time to talk is after school, although we often have staff meetings at the beginning of the week. Often some of these queries can be answered by email, and I welcome this form of communication as I can follow them up outside of classroom hours.

Class Notices
All notices specific to Room 20 will be emailed to a preferred email address. Hard copies of these emails can be sent home with your child if required.
Wherever possible, these notices will also be available on Room 20’s Blog, which can be accessed through the school website, www.redwood.school.nz.
Room 20 Blog
The Room 20 blog is new to me this year, and I will try my best to maintain it throughout the year. I intend to post notices, evidence of student’s learning, links to websites, and anything else I think may be of interest to you. Keep checking in regularly.
Please indicate on the return slip if you have any objections to posting your child’s work on the blog.
