Reading Eggs

Hi all,

Just a notification to say that our trial of Reading Eggs has expired.

Last week, I sent home a notice regarding paying $15 for the continued use of Reading Eggs until February next year.  We needed to gather the interest of 80% of parents so we could take advantage of this deal.  At present, Room 20 are sitting on 15%.

From what I can gather by talking with, listening to and watching, the children are mostly engaged by this.  For instance, some of the boys are on the computers in the morning, comparing some of the things they are doing in Reading Eggs.

I personally recommend that, if your child is keen, that $15 for around 10 months is a great price to pay for this software.  I haven't seen anything online so comprehensive for reading in my searches (although I'm definitely keen to hear of anything).  The cost compares favourably to purchasing a single book, where this site offers hundreds of titles - fiction and non-fiction, or a software package that performs similar functions.  The follow-up activities to improve reading comprehension are also very good, and cover a greater variety of texts than the children will be exposed to at school.  In this regard, it is a great supplement to the existing reading programme.  Not only that, but it gives the opportunity to have good reading learning at home, after school and in the holidays.  It has also proved to be engaging for the more reluctant readers.

If Reading Eggs is subscribed to, Room 20 students who have signed up will have access to it during class time as part of their reading programme.

Sorry if I sound like a salesperson for Reading Eggs, but as I've said, I think that it's a more than fair price for an application of this quality.  If you have any questions, just send an email to michaelheyes@redwood.school.nz.

Thanks,

Michael
